Custom Orthotics (Arch Supports)
The feet are abused with every step. Custom orthotics can reduce this abuse to not only prevent foot problems but also treat current problems. They may also improve ankle, knee, hip, and lower back pain. Just as when someone has knee pain a brace can be worn to help, same with a foot orthotic and foot pain.
Dr. Simmons, being a specialized foot and ankle doctor, has had extensive bio-mechanical and orthotic training to best customize and fabricate custom orthotics.

What is the difference between a custom arch support and one from the drug store?
-
The vast majority of over the counter arch supports give more cushion than actual support. Cushion does feel good but is not providing everything your feet need. A custom orthotic is made specifically for EACH of YOUR feet to exactly match the arch height and has other modifications for other foot problems such as bunions, calluses and bone spurs.

Over-the-counter arch supports need to be replaced as often as every 3 months, custom orthotics can last 5-10 years.

Are custom orthotics expensive?
-
A good quality over the counter orthotic that will last between 6-12 months will cost $40-$70. A custom foot orthotic may be covered by your insurance. We try to check the coverage and cost before your first appointment. If insurance does not cover custom orthotics then we have cash options available. Regardless, a custom orthotic will quickly pay for itself over a prefabricated orthotic by not having repetitive replacement costs.
